Educate. Empower. Evolve.

I honestly never thought I needed (or wanted) a "catch phrase" for my business but as it continues to grow and develop as a brand this one came to me quite organically. What I really find myself wanting people to know is that I am not a traditional Physical Therapist. I want you to throw out any preconceived notions you may have about Physical Therapy from your previous experiences, because that is not what you will get with me. I created On Pointe Wellness to get away from the stereotypical PT practice and create something that I believe is more genuinely geared towards putting the patient first. So I found myself wondering, how do I make people understand this? I landed on these 3 words, which closely speak to my mission with On Pointe Wellness. Let me explain...

I am a strong advocate for educating patients on their health and wellness and always include some form of education into every single visit. I truly believe this is what separates a good Physical Therapist from a great one. A Physical Therapist (or any medical professional for that matter) is going to give you a diagnosis and treatment plan, but if they never explain to you what is happening and how they came to this conclusion, why would you trust that they can help you fix the problem? As a consumer you need to understand what is happening in your body, why it may be happening, and how you can address it. I can give you the best exercise in the world, but unless you understand how it is actually helping you there is a pretty high chance you aren't going to do it, am I right!? This is the first piece to my mission: educating the patient every step of the way and I believe it is the most important move towards taking control of your own health and wellness.

A good Physical Therapist is not one that "heals you", it is one that empowers you to help heal yourself. I believe it is my job to fully educate you on the in's and out's of your body so that you can really understand that you are in control of your own health and wellness. Of course there will always be  things that you need your Physical Therapist for, like manual techniques, assessing your injuries, and giving you the right exercises. BUT then our job should shift to empowering you to put into action all the things we have taught you so that you know what to do to help yourself. Most times, I don't want to see my patients 3x/wk for 12 weeks, because if you are relying on me for those visits then I don't think I have done my job. You are absolutely going to get some homework from me, but it is up to you to follow through with it because I cannot "heal you" in a 1 hour treatment session. BUT I will empower you, guide you through it every step of the way and continuously give you all the tools you need to be in control.

This one encompasses a few things really, because we all are continuously evolving and so is the health and wellness world. My goal is to always evolve with my patients over time so that the patient stays at the center of importance. As your pain evolves so do our treatments. As your hobbies or goals may change, so do our treatments. As the knowledge we have of the body and injuries evolves, so do our treatments. I never want to stay stagnant and we must continue to change as the world around us does. In my 7 years as a PT, already so much has changed because of new and upcoming research. This has led to me treating my patients with new techniques and perspectives over time, and I learn something new from each and every patient. This word is also an important element of On Pointe because I hope that this business will continue to evolve through the years. I am still building my idea of the "perfect practice" and as I learn and discover new things I will continue to make improvements (and I am sure a few mistakes as well!). But that is the beauty in having the freedom to create something that is my own. And so I promise to always better my practice as I evolve and provide you with the best care you could ever find.

Does any of this speak to you? I sure hope it does, because I want you to know that I care about each and every one of you and helping you in any way I can! And of course, contact me when you are ready to take the jump towards a healthier lifestyle!!
